Intellectual Property

We are rated by the Asia Pacific Legal 500 and Asia Law and Practice as one of the leading Philippine law firms in the area of intellectual property protection.

Our lawyers have extensive practice in the prosecution of trademark and patent registration, infringement and unfair competition as well as in copyright protection.

We regularly advise clients on trademark and patent application and registration, protection against infringement and the management of trademark and patent portfolios. Our team closely monitors all the deadlines that must be met to maintain the trademarks and patents entrusted to our care, and we assist our clients to ensure that all requirements are promptly and smoothly complied with. Not only do we aim to deliver precise and swift response in keeping with the firm’s commitment to probity and dependability, we also ensure that we understand our client’s business to address their specific needs in intellectual property protection. Our clients come from various industries, such as food and beverage production and service, social media, airlines, cosmetics, clothing and apparel, furniture, computer software, healthcare, electronics, construction and pharmaceutical products.

Likewise, components of our practice in this area are licensing and franchising. We negotiate, draft and review generally, for and on behalf of proprietary owners, licensing, franchising and technical support agreements, cause the registration of these agreements with the Intellectual Property Office, and/or file requests for exemption from the mandatory requirements of the Intellectual Property Code.

We are often called upon to initiate and carry out actions in the protection of our clients’ intellectual property rights, which include assisting them in their marketing campaigns to curb the sale and distribution of counterfeit products, initiating through cease and desist demand letters and prosecuting infringement and unfair competition complaints, causing the search and raid of establishments suspected of selling and distributing counterfeit products, as well as causing the confiscation and destruction of confiscated products.

We constantly network with stakeholders and keep ourselves abreast of recent developments in Intellectual Property law, both here and abroad, to assure our clients with adequate and up to par protection of their intellectual property.

Our Intellectual Property practice is headed by Jenny R. Santiago, who took her Masters of Law in Business Law and Institutions at the University of Toronto, Narcisa T. Medina and Ralph Samuel T. Yu. They are members of the International Trademark Association, Asian Patent Attorneys Association, and the Licensing Executives Society of the Philippines.
